It's not explainable, Magic is beyond being able to prove other then you have it or you don't, it's not tangible and not something that can be figured out with math, or a science which if it can't be done the Maesters now lose their powers of knowledge control over Castles etc. Which would make them like Priest without a religion if you debunked that their God existed. That's what they tell the common people anyway. But secretly I think they covet that knowledge trying to unravel the hows about spells and attempting to use it with failures, they have the globes and the Black Candles and some other artifacts they try to make work if your a book reader you have seen this referenced, the Red Priestesses are all about magic which again is a ICE and FIRE type of thing, Science vs Magic. Which is also why I think a book about them would be cool, how did they get the ability to use magic? I always thought the children introduced magic...No??? And the Maesters do pass out a link for magical studies. Right??

Yes they do, Valerian Steel ring, doesn't mean they can use Magic just studied it, Maester Luwin had said he studied and tried and tried and ultimately failed trying to use magic.
Children use magic true, but it's not known why and how, they are for my lack of deep explanations Wood Elves, but the Priests from Ashai and there are other areas that have magic as well, so much of the world is unknown to us as well and what's there, this is just a small aspect of Georges world or basically just one and half continents.
It's also why if writers stick to Georges vision and rules of this world we have endless options for additional books, series and storylines.

It was the Children who infused magic spells into the Wall, so they seem to have the ability and have used it and trained in it at the Isle of Faces. Some of the Maester's who are a bit rouge use the Black Candles. We also know there is magic in Ashai under the Shadow, but we don't know if perhaps some magic from Ashai is Black. GRRM has joked the shadow knows. I think there is still a great deal we don't understand about magic in this world. Why did the birth of the Dragons bring magic back? GRRM needs to hurry a little bit or it will be to late to write all the stories that still need telling. Why is it possible for an untrained priest to bring people back from the dead. How and why did Bloodraven become a greenseer? We need a lot of answers.......

the lords look Jon straight in the eye and say "a Targaryen can't be trusted". Wait till they find out he is one!
For some reason, HBO broadcasts the episodes 3 hours early here. I get it at 6pm rather than 9.
Here we go!

Well once again the leaker at Reddit Free Folk was 100% right about the whole episode.
Olenna got to give her last great and biting speach. Vary's has stated from Series beginning he was for the people, he has convinced me. I'm glad Ranydll to give in to easy to Cersei and Jamie. If it hadn't been for Jamie he probably would have stayed with Olenna. That Dragon spear launcher is very scary for the three dragons, they need to burn it post haste. Wow! Poor Jorah, he is a lot more affected than I thought. Sweet Sam to the rescue. I'm giving Jorah a 90% chance at the cure. That was really nasty looking, I can't imagine how painful to have your skin peeled off. Big Ooch! I had read about Arya meeting Hot Pie and it was really sweet and his news turned her toward Winterfell. I was hoping the leaker was wrong about Arya's meeting with Nymeria. I sure hope that isn't their last meeting. As we know from the books Arya ran with Nymeria at night even at the House of Black and White. Arya seceretly called herself the Night Wolf. I was happy Sansa was truthful with Jon about Tyrion. LF has his nerve telling Jon he loves Sansa. Well he knows he won't be manipulating Jon any time soon.... Euron was proper crazy scary and he has three gifts for Cersei.

I really love Olenna. I will be sorry to see her go. Varys has always been one of my favorites. I believe it when he says that he is for the people also. (I also still want to know what the voice in the flames said to him!) Randyl Tarly is a non-entity to me. I am glad that he chose Cersei's side so I can root against him. I hate to think of any of the dragons getting injured or killed, but given the track record with the dire wolves I'd say at least one or more of them are in trouble. I love Sam! I hope his research and generosity pay off for Jorah. Extremely painful though!
Hot Pie asking Arya if she had been baking pies! LOL Nice! I believe we have not seen the last of Nymeria. Maybe Arya will take care of Littlefinger. Euron is a real psycho; what the heck is up with Theon?

Ok my take a bit later since us on the West coast typically see it later but did find that it is on at 6:00 our time. 1) Dani, first time I have seen anyone pin Varys down, she for the first time was intimidating and regal, she was fearsome and had all the information to cut thru the bullshit and make Varys respect her for more then her reputation. She in turn actually respected Varys for being forthright, but I don't think she will truly trust him in a situation where there is a doubtful outcome and a chance for Dani to fall. 2) Melisandre she is playing Dani from the start, used her slavery as a in, then uses the prophecy, as a way to get her attention, she is now trying to play both chances of the prince or princess, yet says summon and let him tell her, she did not say he died and he was resurrected. Dani saying his Queen and to bend the knee, Jon is going to be well on his guard. 3) The North sizing things up, they know they have to go see Dani. 4) Cersie using propaganda and untruths to sway people to back her and forget their vows to the Tyrells, Jamie using Title to persuade Randall, this will end well. Qyburn using the Ballista against a Dead Dragon skull, if they can hit one it may hurt, but Dragons have scale plates and a head on shot is going to be hard on a moving Dragon, they may pierce the scales or may not, it would have to be Valerian steel I think and it may injure but kill, hmmm have to be a great shot. 5) Jorah, wow, what's more intriguing is how the Maesters are avoiding the knowledge of being able to cure it and saying there is none when they know there is, again avoidance of using anything magic related. 6) The strategy of taking Casterly Rock was brilliant, the Sand Snakes hmmm their hate runs deep. But Dani did shut her up. The look when Tyrion said take his home from all of them was worth a season payment to see, Olenna did give her some good advice, Lords are sheep and she is a Dragon, she has a point, there is a balance between ruling and a level of fear if you betray and ruling a Kingdom of ashes. 7) Grey Worm and Messandi, damn making you feel some sympathy for both and humanization, Missandi and him having their moment and overcoming the mutilation of Grey Worm to find a way to be intimate was nicely done, was about love and not just sex for the sake of sex. 8) Jorah and Sam, so Sam treats Jorah with a forbidden method, Jorah has 24 hrs at the Citadel, he is being surgically operated on, ya don't think they are going to notice this, Sam has stolen books, performed forbidden surgeries and I think is not long for the Citidel at this point, he has two tasks left, find a way to create Valerian Steel and Jons lineage. Oh and I will never look at Au Gratin potatoes again after the cut from the surgery to the food seen. 9) Arya was acting somewhat different, more like the Hound then the Arya we used to know. Getting news about the North and the fact she admits to making pies was funny. She had seems to try to be burying her past and emotions. Has a bit of a dead stare going on also, until Hot Pie mentions Jon. 10) Jon and Sansa, I think that the internal issues has been resolved, Jon naming Sansa Queen while he is gone I think has shown he believes in her, nobody likes he is leaving but his reasons are hard to argue with. 11) Littlefinger and Jon, Don't fuck with Sansa Littlefinger, Jon has you marked for death and he isn't going to be the last Stark, the manipulation doesn't work a bit on Jon either. Loved it. Littlefinger is about to find out Winter is coming I think, he is going to try and manipulate Sansa again and may get his claws in her, but Arya is about to arrive. 12) Arya and Nymeria, Nymeria recognized her but sensed something different, she let her keep her horse and pulled off the pack, but still she walked away, is that because she feels Arya doesn't need her or is different, or because she sent Nymeria away before? I wonder if they will meet again. It is the first time since Neds death it looked like Arya was going to cry. Oh and the phrase, that's not you at the end and the look of understanding, maybe she feels Nymeria is something more then a protector like she is more then Lady of Winterfell or I should say not meant to be just a Lady of Winterfell but something else or different. 13) Ship battle, Sand Snakes down to two yes................ Euron is a bad ass, Theon was scared shitless of Euron, can't blame him, but he abandoned Yara who is now one of three gifts to Cersie. Thought the Battle was well done, Sand Snakes using a spear and that thonged Whip were out of their element, those weapons a liability in close quartered combat. Was pretty cool how they did it, using a panoramic view but really just all being done on one ship.Theon regressed as soon as Euron mentioned he was a Cockless wonder to Reek again, you could see his whole posture change, he has a way to go yet. Lastly, this season is a race, little in depth dialogue, lots of transition and then action, were not going to get a lot of dramatic dialogue and set up anymore, have the feeling they are really trying to get to a point in the story where they can wrap stuff up. That's my quick overview and break down.

He seemed to genuinely respect her. I fear he may burn though. It was the way she said it...She in turn actually respected Varys for being forthright, but I don't think she will truly trust him in a situation where there is a doubtful outcome and a chance for Dani to fall. 2) Melisandre she is playing Dani from the start, used her slavery as a in, then uses the prophecy, as a way to get her attention, she is now trying to play both chances of the prince or princess, yet says summon and let him tell her, she did not say he died and he was resurrected. Who would have believed the Red Woman could bring someone back to life?? Dany will have to hear that tale from Jon. Dani saying his Queen and to bend the knee, Jon is going to be well on his guard. 3) The North sizing things up, they know they have to go see Dani. They must get the dragon glass. No matter what else happens....they have to have the glass.4) Cersie using propaganda and untruths to sway people to back her and forget their vows to the Tyrells, Jamie using Title to persuade Randall, this will end well. The Maesters are dicks. When they see the WW coming, I guess they will be pumping out Valarian steel!6) The strategy of taking Casterly Rock was brilliant, the Sand Snakes hmmm their hate runs deep. The Maesters must know that Sam is doing this. He stole the keys and goes in and out of the "restricted" section in the Library. Really looking forward to his discovery of Jon's lineage! But, it might be that Bran will tell Jon about his true lineage. Sam will find the paperworkl!!Oh and I will never look at Au Gratin potatoes again after the cut from the surgery to the food seen. Amen to that!9) Arya was acting somewhat different, more like the Hound then the Arya we used to know. Getting news about the North and the fact she admits to making pies was funny. She had seems to try to be burying her past and emotions. Has a bit of a dead stare going on also, until Hot Pie mentions Jon. What a relief when she turned that horse around! That might be the only time we see Nymeria until Arya truly needs her. Hot Pie was so easy with her. Like he had seen her last week. Not much affection in GRRM's world among friends.10) Jon and Sansa, I think that the internal issues has been resolved, Jon naming Sansa Queen while he is gone I think has shown he believes in her, nobody likes he is leaving but his reasons are hard to argue with. I don't think that Sansa would fall for ANY of his crap! But her sister will kill him if he tries.12) Arya and Nymeria, Nymeria recognized her but sensed something different, she let her keep her horse and pulled off the pack, but still she walked away, is that because she feels Arya doesn't need her or is different, or because she sent Nymeria away before? He will always be the cockless wonder, Reek! His sister tried in vain to return to him his masculinity, but alas, he is REEK! Euron is as bad as Ramsay. Almost. Wonder what Cersie will do with her gift from Euron?? Lastly, this season is a race, little in depth dialogue, lots of transition and then action, were not going to get a lot of dramatic dialogue and set up anymore, have the feeling they are really trying to get to a point in the story where they can wrap stuff up. I can't wait until tonight! I noticed the added line in tonight's synopsis too. I really hope he is able to cure Jorah. Sam is certainly going to break rules! I love Sam wouldn't it be wonderful for him and his little family to make it to the end? the maester's hoarding those books is kinda the opposite of the internet. the maester's don't seem to have a cure for greyscale. if the answer is in one of those books, how come they haven't read it yet, I wonder.. Yes DW, it seems we all have a very soft spot for Sam. I hope he and Gilly and Little Sam make it to the end. Noone, is more deserving.

And remember the warlocks of Qarth and the house of the undying and their magic. Thanks DW, yes, magic is disbursed through out the world in both Westeros and Esso's. There is no clarity on why people have it. The show only brought Quaith in once, in the books she had a Black Candle.

Oh my, I"m going to say something negative. Before I do, I'm going to say all my positives. I love the show, the actors are all top notch and even when the writing is bad they seem to make the bad lines better. The locales they choose to shoot are also top notch, beautiful scenery perfect cinematogrophy. This is hard to say, but as in the past since they went off book the writing is sub-par. I think Chris mentioned this as well, it feels like they just want to hurry and be done. Don't get me wrong I will still watch to the end and love the wonderful parts, but I am a little sad to see such a GREAT story fall lacking due to writing.
I know we should count ourselves lucky they chose to do both seasons 7 & 8, they were very close to 10 episodes in Season 7 and ending the story. Or would that maybe have been better for the story and writing. It very hard to give the series up, but I'm telling myself better that than story-lines with gaping holes. Sorry, I'm venting a bit.
