We have some interesting news. Season 8 script is finished, OK we knew this.... They plan to start shooting in October, shooting usually takes 5 or 6 months. For Season 8 they are expecting to shoot for a year. They said with longer episodes and increased action and CGI they will need a lot of extra time. With the addition of post production needing 4 to 6 months, they estimate airing in early 2019. This time table could be shortened if everything goes smoothly and falls into place, but they probably have a pretty good idea after all these seasons, so we can figure on early 2019.
So here we go again 16 to 20 month wait for the final season. Thinking about that is hard, but if that gives them time to do a really awesome final season, I'm OK with it. I thought Season 7 was badly written and most scenes were rushed. The Winterfell story line was awful. We all new Sansa was playing LF, so what did that accomplish??
The only thing that will really make fandom breath blue fire, taking that long and screwing up the final season.

I'm going to look at it this way. I have read the worst possible ending, so any ending better than the one I read will be a gift. I don't want any bitter, but I know that is unrealistic. We can now prepare for next season for the next year by realizing there will be some heartbreak involved.
I know several summer's ago David and Dan spent 2 or 3 weeks in Santa Fe talking to GRRM about his direction for the last 2 books. I know I read before Season 6 that D&D wanted to end the series close the the way the books are supposed to end. But they have made so many changes it may be impossible at this point to stay exactly the same and in the next 10 or 15 years GRRM may change his mind and go in a completely different direction.
Sadly, some time next year we will know the Series ending. At this point we have no idea when we will be reading the next 2 books. GRRM really does need to get busy writing the end of his epic tale. If he doesn't already he needs to remember his age.
I wish we could put off this last episode. I can't wait to see it, but I woke up sad this morning, knowing this was the finale for this year........
Once again it has been fun and a pleasure to spend it with old GoT friends!!
G.R.R.M. almost seems to be baiting everyone at this point, I don't think we will see the book really till after next season. I also think it will be a lot different story with a lets say similar ending, or maybe not, George seems a pretty vindictive person and if he was upset the way the Show went, he may do 90 degrees just to distance himself from what they did. He may wait till they are done and then do a re edit as well of his material. Kind of why you should not do a series without all the source material if your basing it on source material. Chris, I bet GRRM, Dave and Dan all agree with you. They all would have been better served it they started the series 5 years after GRRM started on ADoS. But, can't take it back now......
I agree GRRM is probably making some major changes. Really not a bad idea, that gives readers a fresh outlook. I hope he does make major changes.

Looking forward to going deeper into the story.. DW, you are going to love the books. We will all be here to discuss the books with you as you are reading. So feel free to discuss or ask questions.......
PS: DW. check with Amazon, they may have a 5 book set of paperbacks. I get some books from the library, but with these books you will want your own set. I went back to past books while I was reading, plus I have read all the books 3 times. Now if I had seen the show before I read the books I may not have needed all the extra refreshers. LOL!

You also have to remember they are going to have 4 or 5 spinoffs or prequels, they need to set the stage for them and dragging it out, gives George time to release his book, get the Pilot ready to air and preemptive contracts signed with all the series participants should one or more take off takes time.
This is very business driven as well as show driven, they want to keep relevant and to do that have things ready, George won't have to compete with the show for his books anymore either and can just do what he does.

Looking forward to going deeper into the story.. Take all the time you need DW! He (GRRM) will not be finishing TWOW this year. However, there will be a new book (Fire and Ice/Fury) hell, I don't remember and this book (not novel) "might" be the source material for the next HBO prequel stories! He's not allowed to share that part of his good news.

Well now we know why it's been taking so long for Winds of Winter, that and I still think he wants the show to end first. This could also be a another stall because he may want to be involved with a prequel or all of them and wants to set the path before he finishes his legacy work.

At this point I have grave doubts GRRM will ever finish ASoIaF. TWoW will not be out in 2018 and probably if it is out in 2019 it will be after the series finale. That's 8 years. The last installment should take 10 years, if he can make it that long. That would be 2029 or 2030. How sad to have a great story and not be able to finish it. Oh well, that is just how it is......

The ending is already written. IMHO. He's had to have known the ending from the beginning. IMHO.
And surely (and don't call me Shirly) he has made arrangements for his story to published even if he can't . Plus, he must have told D & D who wins, don't ya think?
Lordy, finish the damn tale George!!!!!

He has stated he knows the ending, but not how the journey getting there looks. He gave D & D an ending, but in very broad terms. He is also famous for making big changes in the middle of the story. He says he is a Gardner, so the action plays off his muse, he digs up plants and replants elsewhere. That is his writing style. If we get TWoW in 2019, which isn't a sure bet, it will have been 8 yrs. But can we count on getting the book in 2019???
I'm very surprised at his age and knowing how slow he is, he doesn't put all writing projects aside until he finishes this series. Wouldn't you think he wants the satisfaction of writing The End!! I sure would.....
No use complaining, it will come when it comes............
