I just don't understand why they had to change Dany and Drogo's wedding night into a rape. In the book, he clearly asked for consent and she gave it. If it wasn't written as a rape in the books then it wasn't necessary to the story? If it was done to cater to the audience, then what does that say about the audience (us)?

Welcome to the MANY differences you will be see between GRRM's great books and the devolving show!
You are right though, what does that say about D&D and their view of what they think we need to see to have a hit show? And us??
Well....Chris's card was a huge hit around here! LOL We definitely needed many scenes like that!!!!

Good Morning ladies! I'm starting to feel better, this is really early in the season for the flu. I sure hope none of you get it. It is a horrible waste of a week. LOL!
DW, so glad to see you have started your journey. I found book one to have a tremendous amount of foreshadowing and information needed for the following books. On the first read I was so fascinated to see what happened next, I rushed through. On the second read I picked up so much information. Stupid me, I read GoT's once and realized I had missed a ton of stuff so I reread it before I moved on to ACoK's.
Little LA is so correct it doesn't take long at all to come across differences between book and show. The cracks get even bigger as you progress. Ros from the show, who had a significant role in the show, is barely mentioned in the book.
Yes, D&D pander to the audience. I am remembering back to my first days at the HBO forums and many of the book readers complained about the changes and the gratuitous sex. So, although D&D judged the audience needed sex to keep their interest, maybe they misjudged how much a good story could hold an audience. Some of the sex came from the book, it was the added sex and rape that angered book readers.
Please continue to share we will enjoy again threw you.......

Marilyn: Glad you are feeling some better!
DW is going to enjoy these books enormously! How I wish they would have just stuck with the story.
Although, Chris needed the boobies! LOL

Although, Chris needed the boobies! LOL Thanks Little LA. Yes, I think she will be surprised how good they are. OMG! we wouldn't dare deprive Chris of boobies!! LOL!
Well I sure am looking forward to the further tales and travel of Jamie and Clare. That gives us something good to watch for a few weeks.
Get your flu shot early, that stuff I had is really nasty.......

yes! I was so happy to see the trailer and announcement for Outlander. can't wait till Sunday. something to help with GOT withdrawals..
I did like it better in the series rather than the books when Ned Stark gave a dirty look when the man suggested he needed to change into "something more presentable", rather than him declaring he was going to do so. seemed to go better with Ned's attitude.

I guess I spoke a bit too soon, as I see later on they describe Dani as crying and in pain while Drogo "rides" her. So, the series version of the beginnings of their sexual relationship wasn't so far off.

I found myself thinking it would have been cool if Bran had been able to ride Summer, but I guess that would have made the trek up North a Lot easier! lol!

She won't ever get done with Outlander on now and all of us talking about it.

She won't ever get done with Outlander on now and all of us talking about it. And there is this other thing. A little show on Netflix called the magnificent century. Its about the ottoman empire in the 1700s and the rise of Hurrem Sultana. It's out of Turkey and in Turkish with English subtitles for the first two seasons. got me hooked. but I think I'm over it now. I've been switching between reading GOT and watching this show.
I'm at the part with Tyrion's trial at the Erie. He is "confessing" his crimes at this point. Tyrion is hilarious! lol! Lysa is delusional, and little lord of the vale is creepy!

it's interesting reading this and knowing it was Lysa herself that killed Jon (her husband) and knowing that she knows Tyrion didn't do it. She plays the part of "wounded widow" quite well. I sure believed her. But, knowing that she killed her husband for creepy Petyr makes for a entirely different perspective as you read. and it is satisfying to know that Sansa and Arya kill him in the end. good riddance! lol!

I agree Lysa and her nursing 8 year old are very creepy. Sadly in the books Littlefinger is still causing turmoil and trouble.
OK, stop what you are doing go turn on Netflex and find "The Last Kingdom" and start watching. Set in England when it was still a group of kingdoms 1700's. Vikings are raiding their Kingdoms. The lead guy Uhtred is another Jon or Jamie. I think you will really like it.

I did watch that one. I love the Vikings series on the history channel, so I checked that out. Twas pretty good. I will have to go back and check out our leading man and see how he rates up with Aegon and Jamie! lol!
